Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates welcomes two new fellowship-trained neurosurgeons to the practice.

Mark Van Poppel, MD, completed his fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He finished his neurosurgical residency at the University of Tennessee and Semmes-Murphey Clinic, and he is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. His special interests include adult and pediatric epilepsy, congenital cranial and spinal malformations in children, pediatric spinal disorders including spinal dysraphism and tethered spinal cord, pediatric cerebrovascular disease, pediatric and adult tumors of the brain and spine, and endoscopic procedures for adults and children.

John Ziewacz, MD, completed a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine at the University of California. His neurosurgery residency was through the University of Michigan Health Systems and he is a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Ziewacz also earned a degree in public health from Harvard University.

While he is trained in all aspects of neurosurgery, Dr. Ziewacz's areas of special interest lie in performing minimally invasive and complex spinal procedures. He looks forward to being a part of a practice that provides the full range of neurosurgical services with surgeons who offer subspecialized expertise.
